A path out of punishment toward a new vision of justice and healing. We live in a country blighted by mass incarceration. How do we imagine what a different vision of justice could look like? A New Legacy offers answers and hope in conversations with community leaders who are working to create a safe and just world. Jess and Annie Nichol provide a critical viewpoint as survivors of a high profile violent crime that changed the course of the justice system. When their sister, Polly Klaas, was kidnapped and murdered in 1993, a new tough-on-crime era overtook the US, setting off a rash of punitive sentencing laws and skyrocketing mass incarceration. In this podcast, Jess and Annie hope to build a new legacy of justice for their sister and for those most impacted by the unjust laws that were passed in Polly’s name. A New Legacy is a path out of punishment toward a new vision of justice and healing. This podcast features an inclusive coalition of voices and strategies that aim to disrupt cycles of harm from the beginning to create safer and healthier communities and a better world for everyone.
